To briefly describe the Asian leadership we will look at their organization. For Asian leadership you have vision and energy. Management is efficient and offers the results. Then the administration offers the rules and procedures. As you can see the Asian American and American styles have little difference. However, in America you have directive, participative, empowering, charismatic and then celebrity leadership styles.
Lets further explain the differences in Asian leadership by looking at Asia first then translating that into what we may see from the Asian American.
Cultural differences account for much of the Asian leadership and American leadership contrasts. The Asian family even that of the Asian American is designed to be family oriented. Many of the businesses in Asia and for the Asian American population are built on family succession. In other words the CEO or top executive of the company will pass on their company to their family such as a sibling, offspring, or other individual. It is this family oriented business that may offer them more success at the moment if they tap into it a bit more.
Currently in the US many of the corporations that used to be family owned are now run by professional managers. It is the smaller businesses that may reflect back on the beginning. With the new professional managers as a way to run business more money is supposedly in place for the world domination of certain companies. However, they are more interested in getting their money out of the company rather than the overall business succeeding. This is definitely seen in the last decade where compensation packages to CEO's have increased by a very large number, even for those that are forced to resign due to lack of success as a CEO in the company.
The difference in Asian leadership is that families do care about the company. The Asian American even wants to see the family get the rewards of running a business successfully rather than becoming rich and lazy. To a certain degree Asian leadership is behind the US. Asian Americans can attest to this. The American firms have been established for longer in the global market, and they have already moved through to board ownership rather than a specific family.
At this moment no one is certain if Asian leadership will change. For the Asian American it may because of the independence taught in the country. The US is more about self in recent years than good hard working progress. It would be a shame for Asian leadership in business to lose this quality, even for the Asian American.
