Immigration History and Statistics of Asian Americans
The immigration history for Asian Americans is longer than one might consider. Asian immigration began in the early 1800's. This is a particular time in history in which American cannot be proud. During the 1800's as many know slavery was very present and there was a war being fought. It was during this time when slaves from Africa were scarce that Asians were being brought in to help the surplus. Much of the Asian immigration history has its roots in slavery of one kind or another. We have the whites bringing Asians for labor. However, we also have the Asians using other Asians as slaves. Within the immigration history is the gold rush.

The gold rush was a time when many Asians believed they could get gold and bring it back to their homes for more wealth. Unfortunately those leading the expeditions would bring Asian slaves to America promising freedom and wealth and instead bringing pain.

The Gold Rush was a huge disappointment for many of those during the Asian immigration. immigration history worsens during this time as those who did manage to get free ended up working in very dangerous jobs such as building railroads for minimal pay. The immigration history did not change overnight. In fact Asian immigration in the 1920's and on was just about as bad as the first Asian immigration to take place.

In the 1900's towards the 1950's Asian immigration was still happening. It is another point in time where immigration history is not favorable for the white Americans. During this immigration history many Asian immigrants were brought to work in sweat shops or as prostitutes. Still more in the immigration history were brought to be wives for men. This Asian immigration is still going on today in some areas though not to the degree it has in the past. There are government laws trying to rectify the immigration history of the past.

It was also during the 1940's to 1950's that the Asian interment began. The Asian immigration was seen as unfavorable; even those that were born in the US were seen as dangerous. For the Asian immigration at this time many families and especially men wound up in jail for little reason, but fear. They were seen as dangerous because of World War II.

It was not until 1965 that an immigration act was passed. While it was not as favorable as it could have been the immigration history began to change. Asian immigration was legalized so that those who applied through proper channels could get national support. Again the immigration history was still there and it made it difficult to be well received. Now there are other issues to face with immigration. The US is trying to close their doors to immigration especially to the Hispanics, but also to anyone who is illegal in the country. There is some worry of deportation, but there are also political powers working to make sure that those here can stay with the proper paperwork.
